Venus Williams win in Birmingham


Venus Williams defied her physique to defeat Italy's Camila Giorgi in an emotional first round match at the Birmingham Classic.

American Williams cried after taking a medical time out after only 5 games of the match.

However, with a tight right knee, the 43-year-old fought back to win 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-6 (8-6).

It was only Williams' second win in nearly two years after a long injury break

In what turned out to be an entertaining and closely contested encounter,  Arsenal  managed to secure a 1-1 draw against  Manchester city in the Community Shield before prevailing in the penalty shoot-out with a resounding 4-1 victory.
